The principle
subding watches public Reddit conversations and tells you when your keywords come up. That is a quiet kind of power, so we draw firm lines around it. Use subding to hear what people are saying about your product, your market and your name. Do not use it to target, profile or harm anyone.
Stay within the Reddit rules
Your use of subding has to stay within the rules and policies published by Reddit. If Reddit does not allow something, neither do we. subding exists to make you aware of conversations, not to act inside them, and it is your job to keep what you do lawful and above board.
People and topics you must not monitor
Some things are simply off limits, no matter the reason. You must not use subding to:
- Track, alert on or monitor sensitive events, such as protests, rallies or demonstrations.
- Track or monitor sensitive groups and organisations, such as trade unions, activist groups or campaigns.
- Single out, segment or profile people based on their health or medical conditions, financial hardship, political opinions or affiliation, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life or sexual orientation, racial or ethnic origin, trade union membership, or criminal history or allegations.
- Identify, watch or build a dossier on a specific individual.
These lines protect real people, and they are also a condition of the access that makes subding work. We take them seriously, and we expect you to as well.
What you must not do with the content
The posts and comments subding surfaces are there for you to read and act on as a human, not to harvest. You must not:
- Scrape, bulk-download, republish or resell the Reddit content you reach through subding.
- Use that content to train or fine-tune AI or machine-learning models.
- Keep copies of Reddit posts or comments after they have been deleted on Reddit.
- Alter Reddit content and present it as the original.
No automating Reddit
subding never posts for you, and you must not rig it up to do so at one remove. Do not use subding, or anything it feeds, to auto-post, auto-reply, auto-comment, upvote, downvote or send messages on Reddit. Pipe the signal into your own workflow all you like, that is what the webhooks are for, but the reply is for a person to write, openly and honestly, under their own name.
General no-goes
The obvious ones apply too. Do not use subding for anything unlawful, harassing, hateful, deceptive or infringing. Do not reverse-engineer it, resell it, or dress it up as your own product. And do not try to break, overload or work around our limits, or the limits Reddit sets.
What happens if you break this
If you break this policy, we can suspend or close your account, with or without notice depending on how serious it is. Some breaches we may be required to report. We would always rather have a quiet word first, but the worst kinds of misuse do not get one.
